Following the death of her parents, Eren Donovan moves to Spruce Knoll to live with an aunt she's never met. Little does Eren know, the entire population are channelers-magical people who immigrated there when they were driven out of their homelands. Channelers are tied to the fate of the world, and as it slowly dies, they are going extinct-and they alone have the power to save the earth. Soon, Eren learns she not only lives among them, but she is one. When she meets local boy Aiden, his charm convinces her that being a channeler may not be all bad though. As Eren and Aiden's relationship develops, so too does a mystery in Spruce Knoll. The town holds many secrets-and many dangers. It soon becomes apparent that the untimely death of Eren's parents was no accident and that her life might be in danger too. Only time will tell if Eren can embrace her unwanted power and protect the only family she has left.

What a great story this is! One of the best things about it is that I can't think of a book to compare it too. The reason why I love that, is because the story is just so unique. Which is why I kept turning the page! Loved it!I loved that the characters (even the hot boy) was flawed and not perfect. I loved that the main character, Eren, had issues trusting and letting herself be loved (natural considering what she'd been through - no spoilers from me!)
And, in an environmentally conscious world, many people will appreciate the strong love for nature present throughout SPRUCE KNOLL.
If you're a fan of romance (check!), mystery (check!), nature (check!), different cultures (check!), and rooting for the underdog (check!)you will love THE SECRET OF SPRUCE KNOLL.

The Secret of Spruce Knoll A Channeler Novel Heather McCorkle 9780984786312 Books Reviews
This was a awesome book too read.
It made me wish I could live in Spruce Knoll.
I could see it all in my head and feel it all in my heart.
I'm no good in giving reviews, I can read the books in english very well but too right reviews in english is bad LOL...
I'm now going too read book 2 ...
Thanks for writing such fantastic books, love you for it ...
My biggest peeves were the repeated grammatical errors which at this stage should be edited out. It was obviously part of a series as much was hinted at that wasn't fully developed. All in all you want to know about this world the author has created and what happens to the lightly sketched sometimes nuanced characters. I think we'll get to know them better as the series goes on. Shading and character development aside, the concepts are intriguing, engaging and fun.
Read Born of Fire, and Fire With Fire. before starting this Channeler series. Well written YA book. Interesting premiss and characters. This series is definitely a "Chick" series. There's a lot of teenage angst, and the one male lead is way too perfect to appeal to guys.
An orphaned teen, now living with her aunt, discovers she has unique powers...and the community she's moved to does, too. This is a fast-paced, paranormal teen novel that drew me in with its empathetic characters. I will probably read the next installment, and I recommend this for an enjoyable, entertaining read--especially if you're already a fan of YA fantasy/paranormal fiction.
A few things bothered me (may just be my personal taste) first, new channelers might disintegrate their clothes because they can't control their power yet. Really? Felt gimmicky and felt like cheap opportunities for teen "romance." Another thing, why doesn't Eren ask about the similarity between her parents being attacked by animals, and her own experiences being attacked? Maybe I missed it, but this seemed like an obvious question to ask. I also thought the diverse cultures in one place went undeveloped. I'm really hoping the upcoming Channeler books explore the cultural tensions because they're so rich.
I downloaded this book for free as a part of Valentine's Day promo. I probably would not have read it otherwise.
I was pleasantly surprised by the book. The plot is very compelling (other reviewers have described it, I feel no need to regurgitate what has already been said). I felt like the relationships were a little underdeveloped at the end of the book. That may have been what the author was going for and it sort of works for the book but I really believe that developed, well-written relationships are what make a book great. The town, Spruce Knoll, itself was very well described. I really got a feel for the place. That was a strong point of the book.
All in all I liked the story enough to download and read the rest of the series. If the relationships between the characters had a little more depth, I might have given the book another star.
The central character is a 16 year-old girl who has to come to grips with her occult powers while being in love with a 16 year-old boy, also with occult powers, but from "another" society. The plot has many twists and you find yourself cheering for the kids and really wanting the villains to "get what's coming to them." The characters very well developed and the descriptions are nicely done. This is the first book in a series. I have not read the others but if they are of equal quality to this one, I will definitely want to. Absolutely worth reading.
The story of Eren and Aiden took me back to the days of my own teenage years with my nose buried in a book about a pair of star crossed lovers. This story was well written, the characters felt real and drew me into their lives which is EXACTLY what every reader wants. The descriptions of magic weren't over the top and the level of mystery an thrills were PERFECT.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a refreshing read. After the glut of vampires, angels and witches, this is a fantastic story that will have you looking at the world around you with new eyes.
Well done, looking forward to the rest of the series!
